APPG to host Parliamentary reception to mark the introduction of marriage equality to Northern Ireland

Amnesty International UK, in partnership with the All Party Parliamentary Group on Global LGBT+ Rights and the Love Equality campaign for marriage equality will be hosting a reception to celebrate the introduction of equal marriage rights for same-sex couples in Northern Ireland on February 11.

The law change, part of the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation etc) Act 2019, means that the first weddings will take place in the week commencing February 10 2020.

Campaigners from Northern Ireland will be joining us to express their thanks for the support of Parliament and from partners in civil society.

We expect short contributions from the following:

  • Crispin Blunt MP, Chair, All-Party Parliamentary Group on Global LGBT+ Rights

  • Rt Hon Julian Smith MP, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland

  • Patrick Corrigan, NI programme director, Amnesty International UK

  • Cara McCann & Amanda McGurk, Love Equality coalition
